Jeroen van Raalte of Cedar Landscapes has been designing, building and maintaining gardens for private clients since 1987.
“Having trained in Holland for four years, with a Diploma in Landscape Design and Construction, I originally came to the UK in 1983 as a landscape graduate to gain further work experience. I was fortunate to get a placement with the National Trust where I was invited to train as a tree surgeon. I then spent several years gaining further work experience with other landscape companies in the UK before establishing Cedar Landscapes.
That was over twenty years ago. I never made it back to Holland and haven’t looked back since!”
As the sole proprietor of Cedar Landscapes I am available to meet with you in person to discuss your individual requirements. It is vital to any project that we take on that I have the fullest appreciation of what you are trying to achieve with your garden, large or small. I will continue to be your point of contact throughout any project that we undertake for you.
Being Dutch I am used to working with two primary constraints when it comes to designing and building gardens. The first typically relates to the size of the garden, which thankfully doesn’t necessarily follow suit in the UK, and the other constraint I am occasionally challenged with is the budget.
Thankfully when it comes to the budget for the garden I firmly believe that this can be resolved through careful planning. A garden can be developed in phases over a 2-3 year time frame so that all you need is the faith that ‘Rome wasn’t built in a day’ rather than the desire for an instant TV garden makeover!
As the space constraint doesn’t apply in the UK as much as it does in my native Holland, I very much advocate seeing the house and garden as a whole. I like to ensure that the garden landscape compliments the owner’s lifestyle and links naturally with the style of the house.
Having worked in gardens where space is critical means that you have to keep everything neat and tidy and in its place. We take pride in our work and believe that this should be reflected from start to finish.
Cedar Landscapes has a work force of 10 people who are skilled in all aspects of hard and soft landscaping.
We operate from our base in Godalming and work throughout Surrey, West Sussex and Central and South West London, with the occasional foray into South West France and Central Holland.
The gardens we build range in size from a typical London townhouse garden to country gardens with several acres and budgets to suit.
